Terms of Service

By creating an account or using NuanceLab, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be at least 16 years old to use NuanceLab.

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and NuanceLab regarding your use of the service and supersede all prior agreements.

NuanceLab is an AI-powered language learning platform designed for advanced Danish learners. The service includes:

• Pronunciation assessment with per-word accuracy scoring via Microsoft Azure Speech Services
• AI-generated Danish practice texts, customisable by topic, length, and vocabulary
• Personal vocabulary management with forced-inclusion practice
• AI writing grading for sentence-level grammar and idiomatic feedback
• The Nuance Coach — an AI language tutor powered by Anthropic Claude
• Progress tracking including XP, streaks, and pronunciation trend data
• Daily trouble-word drills built from your personal error history

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the service at any time, with reasonable notice where practicable.

New subscribers receive a 7-day free trial upon starting any paid plan. During the trial period you have full access to all features of the service.

A valid payment method is required to start a trial. You will not be charged until the trial period ends. If you cancel before the trial ends, you will not be charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription will automatically convert to the paid plan you selected and your payment method will be billed.

Free trials are available to new subscribers only. NuanceLab reserves the right to limit or revoke trial access in cases of suspected abuse.

NuanceLab offers two subscription plans:

All prices are stated in Danish Krone (DKK) and are inclusive of any applicable VAT. NuanceLab reserves the right to change prices with at least 30 days' written notice. Price changes will not affect your current billing period; they will take effect at the next renewal.

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. By providing a payment method, you authorise NuanceLab to charge that method for all fees due in accordance with your selected plan.

• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled beforehand.
• You will receive an email receipt from Stripe after each successful charge.
• If a payment fails, we will retry using Stripe's standard dunning schedule and notify you by email. Access may be suspended if payment cannot be collected.
• You are responsible for ensuring your payment details are current and that sufficient funds are available.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Settings → Billing section of your NuanceLab account, or by contacting us at hello@nuancelab.app. There are no cancellation fees.

Upon cancellation, your subscription will remain active until the end of your current paid billing period. You will not be charged for the next period and your access will end when the period expires. Partial billing periods are not refunded.

Because NuanceLab provides a 7-day free trial before any charge is made, we do not offer refunds for subscription payments once the trial has ended and the billing period has begun.

Exceptions may be made at our sole discretion in cases of genuine billing errors or duplicate charges. To request a refund under these circumstances, contact hello@nuancelab.app within 14 days of the charge.

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable Danish or EU consumer protection law.

To ensure fair service quality for all users, the following limits apply:

• Pronunciation assessment sessions: 15 per account per calendar day.
• Chat messages to the Nuance Coach: subject to reasonable use; sessions are limited to the last 4 messages for cost and quality reasons.
• Writing grading: maximum 20 sentences per submission, each up to 500 characters.

NuanceLab reserves the right to adjust these limits at any time. Subscribers on paid plans will receive advance notice of any reductions.

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any purpose other than personal language learning.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the service through automated means.
• Resell, sublicense, or otherwise commercialise access to NuanceLab.
• Upload audio, text, or other content that is unlawful, harmful, or in violation of third-party rights.
• Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any daily limits, authentication, or access controls.
• Use the service in any way that interferes with its availability or performance for other users.

Violation of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account without refund.

All software, AI models, brand assets, and content comprising NuanceLab (excluding user-provided data) are the property of NuanceLab or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

AI-generated practice texts produced by NuanceLab during your session are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce or distribute this content without our written consent.

You retain ownership of any personal data you provide, including audio recordings and vocabulary entries. By using the service, you grant NuanceLab a limited, non-exclusive licence to process that data solely to provide the features described in these Terms.

NuanceLab is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.

We do not guarantee specific language learning outcomes. NuanceLab is a supplementary learning tool and is not a substitute for formal language instruction or accredited certification.

AI-generated feedback is produced by third-party language models and may occasionally contain errors. You should not rely on it as authoritative linguistic advice.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, NuanceLab's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to NuanceLab in the 12 months preceding the claim.

NuanceLab shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of profits, or service interruptions, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Danish or EU consumer law.

You may close your account at any time by emailing hello@nuancelab.app. Account closure cancels any active subscription at the end of the current billing period and initiates the data deletion process described in our Privacy Policy.

NuanceLab may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms. Where reasonable, we will provide notice and an opportunity to remedy the breach before termination.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of NuanceLab shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If that fails, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Denmark.

If you are an EU consumer, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of NuanceLab after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you may cancel your subscription and close your account before the effective date.
